fuh.. been busy busy busy for the past few weeks. what's keeping me occupied u ask. oh i know! i know!
it's the freaking long hours i have at the hospital.. lectures, labs, practicals.. i've got 3 labs now in 3rd year. 1st one is the prosthetics lab. this is where i learn how to make casts and dentures. i tell you, making a denture is SO NOT EASY! i've gotta make a model of the patient's jaw, then make a tray which fits closely with the jaw to take another impression of the patient's jaw for a more accurate model. *mafan!* plus, the tray must be trimmed and polished so it wouldn't cut the gums. and if trimmed too much, i've gotta start all over. but, it's still kinda fun. get to play with bunsens, wax and plasticin-like material. like i said, i feel like i'm attending some craft class. ^^ fun fun fun!
2nd lab is the OTL. mmm, not sure what it stands for. Orthodontics teaching lab? oral teaching lab? now i'm learning caries management. i've gotta hunt down extracted teeth (real human extracted teeth. they're really gross i tell you. ask elin, i showed her my collection^^). what i basically do is mount the teeth on plaster blocks and start removing caries by DRILLING them! it's just excessively gratifying! haven't started filling teeth tho. am so not looking forward to it.
the lab i like least is the periodontal clinic. it's where we experience how it's like to work in the clinic. we pair up and take turns to examine each other's mouths. ugh. me no like! the only part i like most is playing with the chair. hehe. up down up down.
neways, i wanna talk about my dental tool kit now. JPA has agreed to borne the full cost (EUR 4000) of it! woohoo!! gonna get my money back! there are countless intruments and accessories in a voluminous tool box (those used by handymen). it's humungous i tell you! in addition, i've got like 5 other boxes of stuff which i have no idea what they are for. the frustrating things is that they take up so much space in my locker that i've got nowhere to put my coat and shoes.. ):
