never in my wildest dreams did i expect Cork to flood. right after publishing my previous post, the power went out. water level in the river continued to rise, overflowing into the basement in University Hall where i'm staying, caused a blackout as the power supply happened to be in the basement. crap. i was left to sit in the dark with nothing else to do but to sleep.
and sleep i did. i slept through all the commotion that happened the entire night. water entering the rooms on the ground floor, tow truck pulling cars out of the basement, fire alarms went off, and what nots. i got up early the next day to find that the power was not back. i got ready for class and put on my UGG boots thinking that they'll keep the water out. to my utter dismay, they were soaked through even before i reached the entrance :((( good thing i ran into my warden who told me better than to walk to class in that condition as in certain areas, the water was at waist level. uhhh! i then called the hospital to inform them that i've been flooded in only to find out that we've all been given the day off! i guess i prayed too hard. oops! ^^
with the day free, i got back into bed to catch up on some sleep, only to be waken by an announcement by the Manager of Uni Hall. we were told to pack our bags and be ready in 10 mins for the army to evacuate us. did u hear that? the army! ;) how many people can say that they were actually rescued by the army? hehe.
after many hours of waiting, we were 'rescued' from University Hall to dry ground. fortunately, we were given temporary accommodation or i'll be sleeping on the streets..
so I've been seeking refuge in DeansHall, Bishopstown for a week now. not sure when i'll be able to move back to my room.
my refugee camp :) it is really nice, almost as good as Uni Hall! best part is we get to boost the water heater as many times as we want, so hot water all day! ^^
despite the flood and long hours of waiting to be relocated, it didn't stop many from attending the Med Ball, us included.
