Italy Day #4

Nice

we're in Nice, France today! oops, shouldn't be called italy tour liao. hihi. nevermind la. the tour was mainly in italy ma.

mmm Nice. it's a place for the ang mohs la. the by the French riviera (riviera = beach + sun). so ang mohs like lo. it used to be a favourite spot for the rich people during the summer. but i think the place has lost it's former glory. buildings are scarcely maintained. area is rather filthy. just poignant. but...... the sea is superb! apart from the stoney beach that is.

along the streets of Nice. the most exclusive area.
gloomy day that day. rained all day.

me at Place Massena. named after a brave soldier. tourist spot in Nice.

bruffin!
muffin on the outside and brownie inside. tasted more like a muffin.

the sea i mentioned. The Mediterranean Sea. isn't it just exquisite. even on a murky day.

the stoney beach. still pretty though.

Promenade de Anglia's. me with my leaky umbrella!

Saint Paul de Vence

from Nice, we headed to St. Paul de Vence (pron. vonce) in Provence. it was discovered by artists and celebrities in the 1930's, who tried to preserve the reclusive nature of Saint Paul. but if course it's an open secret today or we wouldn't be visiting it. ^^

Saint Paul de Vence is teeming with art galleries. almost every shop there sells art pieces. be it sculptures, oil paintings, carvings, jewelery. they've got it all.

view from downhill. city of Saint Paul de Vence.

main entrance to the city of art. even the pavement is art.

sunflower motifs. symbolizes something. i don't remember what. hehe. pardon me.

this place has something to it. it gives me the feeling of peace and tranquility. i love it there.

one of the countless art shops.

wey, mommy and i outside another art shop

boycotting wey after she refused to share her gelato

exiting the picturesque city. feeling like a star with 2 cameras on me ^^

trying to be cool. attempt failed.

Cannes

the European Film Festival center.

it is one of the best-known cities of the French Riviera. it is a busy tourist destination and host of the annual Cannes Film Festival. cannes is home of numerous luxurious houses and mansions. the city is also famous for its various luxory stores, fancy preestigious hotels. cannes' American sister city is Beverley Hills.

Palais de Festival. venue of the Cannes Film Festival. ugh i look funny.

mickey's hand print!

such a cute tele booth in cannes

time we had in cannes was short. an hour perhaps. that's all we got. and most of the hour was spent looking for a pair of sandals for my mom, whose feet were hurting. so it's a wonder that we managed to capture quite a few pictures there. we missed out on the marina bay though. most of it was blocked by the boards put up for the Cannes Film Festival which ended a week before we were there. shucks. missed it again.

i don't have any pictures of the dinner that day and have no memory of it. so it's probably another trashy chinese restaurant. we stayed at the same hotel in Nice.

Italy Day #5

next destination: the maritime city of Pisa!

most of the morning was spent on the bus, travelling from Nice to Pisa, in central italy. back on Italy soil.

Pisa

to see the world famous bell tower of course! the Leaning Tower of Pisa. uh i keep typing pizza. hehe. missing the pizza in italy. lol.

Square of Miracles. picture courtesy of Wikipedia

another rainy day. it just sucks. it started to rain the moment we entered the square!

nothing to fret about. hihi. i got to use my cute little flowery umbrella.

Baptistry of the Cathedral. that's my mommy with the orange umbrella.

Leaning tower of Pisa with leaning wein.
seized mommy's umbrella. mine was leaking :(

done with pizza. no. pisa. just outside the square, is a street with stalls on both sides. like our pasar malam. but more canggih. there are stalls which sell aprons. not just any normal aprons. aprons with nude bodies on them. so you'll look like you're naked wearing it. they even have boxers with the print of a guy's crotch. didn't get any pictures as mommy was furious with disapproval. haha.

it was supposed to be a 2 hour drive from Pisa to Florence. but we ended up arriving over 3 hours later due to a massive traffic jam. by the time we got there, it was nearly sundown. so, another rushed tour in florence.

Florence

hometown of Michelangelo Buonarroti

Florence is known as the "cradle of Renaissance" for its monuments, churches and buildings. The best-known site and crowning architectural jewel of Florence is the domed cathedral of the city, Santa Maria del Fiore, known as The Duomo. The dome, 600 years after its completion, is still the largest dome built in brick and mortar in the world.

Santa Maria del Fiore. decorated with 3 colors of marble; white, pink, and the rarest, green.

tower and dome

Facade and Campanile (bell tower) of Santa Maria del Fiore. the baptistry can be seen in the left foreground.

gelato

Palazzo Vecchio. town hall of Florence. inside, there is a museum with many works of Michelangelo.

statue of David by Michelangelo. completed in 1504. symbol of Florentine freedom. placed in front of the town hall.

face of a 'greedy man'. this man borrowed money from people and refused to repay. he was then brought to court and was sentenced to 3 months in jail. Michelangelo felt the punishment insufficient, thus he carved the face of the greedy man on the wall of the Palazzo Vecchio to remind people not to fall for his deceit again.

random street in florence

bloody orange. looks gross i know. but it tastes much better than the usual ones.

wide array of pasta. black squid ink pasta in the top right corner.
